Pasties Pack a Punch in the Community

PRESS RELEASE  28 June 2010

Proper Cornish is 50th company to join CCF ‘100 Club’The UK’s leading handmade Cornish pasty manufacturer, Proper Cornish Food Company, has become the 50th company to join the Cornwall Community Foundation (CCF) ‘100 Club’, it was announced today.

The 100 Club is a scheme which enables Cornish-based or linked businesses to give targeted funding to grassroots organisations and projects in their local communities. Members provide an annual donation for a minimum of three years which is put towards supporting local causes through grants, as well as supporting the CCF itself and its endowment fund.

To date more than £70,000 has been raised by the scheme, helping various community causes including St Keyne Youth Club, Launceston Community Transport Partnership, the St Ives Jumbo Association and St Austell Boxing Club.   A total of 27 groups and projects around the county have benefited from the scheme, improving the lives of more than 27,000 beneficiaries.

According to Phil Ugalde, Chairman of Proper Cornish Food Company, the CCF 100 Club offers the perfect opportunity to give back to the local community:

“Proper Cornish is very proud to be a Cornish company, producing quality Cornish food, so it is only natural that we would want to support the communities around us.  We have been particularly impressed with the focus of the Cornwall Community Foundation on grass-roots groups and projects around the county, and are looking forward to seeing the real benefits that the funding can bring.”

Claire Thayers, CCF Fund Development Manager, commented:“Cornwall is an idyllically beautiful place but also contains areas of great poverty, with all of the associated problems. These problems are most effectively tackled by small, volunteer led groups and projects which can revive, restore and maintain the heart of a community. “We’re delighted to welcome Proper Cornish as our 50th member of the 100 Club.  They can be sure that every penny they donate will stay in the county and help us to help Cornwall,” she added. In addition to annual donations, many CCF 100 Club members also give help-in-kind in the form of free car parking, meeting rooms, catering, printing, postage and venues, and offer sponsorship to support events.Later in the year the charity will be organising some ‘Seeing is Believing’ tours, giving 100 Club members the opportunity to visit some of groups they have funded.Companies interested in joining the CCF 100 Club should contact Claire Thayers at the Cornwall Community Foundation on 07791 893 480.
