Proper Provenance...
People like to know they're getting the genuine article. Champagne comes, as you'd expect, from the Champagne region in France and Whitstable oysters come from the Kent town of that name. A proper Cornish pasty comes from Cornwall.
A pasty from anywhere else that calls itself Cornish is pretending to be something it isn't. Only in Cornwall can the perfect pasty be made, and only Cornish folk know the secret.
Cornwall is home to some of the highest quality food produced in the world, and we use only the finest, freshest natural ingredients. We strongly believe in supporting local farmers and work closely with our suppliers to source all of our farm produce locally, wherever possible. Our swede comes from Hayle courtesy of Trevor and Sue Goldsworthy's family run farm, our potatoes from third generation farmer Tom Mitchell in Liskeard, fourth generation West Country farmer Ian Small supplies our pork and all of our Cornish butter and clotted cream comes from family run dairy ‘Trewithin Farm' in Lostwithiel.
Imitation may be flattering, but it's also misleading. That's why we at Proper Cornish Food Company have joined a group of pasty manufacturers, led by Taste of the West Cornwall, to support an application for the Cornish pasty to be awarded Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status. PGI status will protect the authenticity and quality of Cornish pasties in EU law.
It will mean Cornish pasties will have to be proper - and they will have to be Cornish!
