It’s a family affair as the Proper Cornish NPD team sweep the World Pasty Championships 2016.
Proper Cornish has been celebrating its successes after a triumphant World Pasty Championships 2016. The NPD team led the way with Andy Heath, New Product Development Manager, taking bronze in the Cornish Pasty Professional category and in the Open Savoury Professional category with a three cheese, spring onion and potato pasty. Meanwhile, Andy’s children were victorious in the junior categories for those under 15 years old.
Andy’s 13 year old, Rhys Heath, won the Open Savoury Junior category with a ‘breakfast pasty’, containing bacon, sausage, scrambled egg, baked beans, black pudding and hash browns. Meanwhile his daughter, 10 year old Jodie Health, also came third in the Cornish Pasty Junior category. Meanwhile collecting more awards for the company, former senior NPD technologist, Julie Heard showcased her expertise too, winning the top prize in the Pasty Professional category for her traditional pasty Cornish.
Speaking of the success, Andy commented: “We’re delighted with the many accolades won this year – for me both from a business and a personal perspective, what with Rhys and Jodie both winning prizes! We’ve had victories at the championships before, but this year was special – it represented the hard work our NPD team has put in to perfect the traditional pasty and try out new, successful flavour combinations. It’s something that’s central to our success as a company and it’s fantastic to see it recognised.
“Sharing the success with my kids meant a lot to me and really reflects what south west baking is all about: passing on age old recipes to the next generation to keep this region at the forefront of food and drink in the UK – where it deserves to be!”
