Two world championship wins for Bodmin pasty company
Proper Cornish, the UK’s leading handmade Cornish pasty manufacturer based in Bodmin, is celebrating this week after two of its professional chefs came first and third at the 2015 World Pasty Championships held at the Eden Project.
Andy Heath, New Product Development Manager, was crowned World Pasty Champion of the Cornish pasty professional category scoring an impressive 96 out of 100. Andy wins back the title he first won in the same category in 2013, and last year was placed second in the open savoury professional category.
Andy has worked at Proper Cornish for nearly a decade, developing hundreds of filled pastry recipes for the company which sells millions of pasties to wholesalers and retailers nationwide. Andy has been in the business long enough to just look at pastry to know how well it will bake and creates flavour combinations for best-selling products all over the country.
“At Proper Cornish we develop hundreds of recipes for our customers, so it’s great to say that the company has champion chefs making their products. The pasty championships are brilliant for the industry and like the PGI, adds real value to such an iconic food which is loved by so many people.
“The standard of the entries gets better each year and I’m already thinking about my next recipes!”
Karolina Albertova, New Product Development Assistant, has only been with the company for three months in her first ever chef role and is ecstatic with her championship recognition, “I absolutely love being in the kitchen so it’s been great that Proper Cornish has supported us to enter the competition with our own creations.
“Having only been with the company for a few months, I never expected to be placed so I’m thrilled and Proper Cornish is extremely happy that they now have two champion chefs!”
The wins follow a week of recognitions for Proper Cornish, who was up against international brands and won Best Company by one of their customers who provides the widest portfolio of foodservice solutions in the world.
